General Information - Captain Lewis worked extensively with famed marine archeologist R. Duncan Mathewson III, on the recovery and preservation of artifacts from the Spanish treasure galleon Nuestra Senora de Atocha found in 1985 in the Florida Keys.

Post-Master's Degree - 45 semester credits in varying disciplines including marine archeology

Experience

Diving experience - Light salvage, former PADI Professional Scuba Instructor.
Open Ocean Voyaging experience - Approximately 153,000 miles in sail and power vessels. This experience is based on Captain Lewis's former yacht/commercial vessel delivery service. Included in this experience are both trans-Pacific and trans-Atlantic crossings, transits of the Panama Canal, voyages along the coastal United States, the intracoastal waterway, Hawaiian Islands, Alaska, and numerous voyages to and through the Bahamas and Caribbean.

Professional Sport Fishing experience - Captain Lewis has years of experience captaining sportfishing yachts in tropical waters. He is also an accomplished tournament captain. He as captained virtually every type of sport fishing vessel.

Maritime Writing experience - Captain Lewis has an extensive professional writing portfolio. At one time he was a Contributing Editor with the following publications: Ocean Navigator magazine, Ocean Voyager magazine, Southern Boating magazine, Pleasure Boating magazine, Sportfishing magazine, and Seafarers, The Journal of Maritime History. He also has written extensively for Sail magazine, Cruising World magazine, the Miami Herald newspaper, the Key West Citizen newspaper, and Island Life newspaper.

Captain Lewis's specialties were seamanship, open ocean voyaging, sport fishing, and marine archeology.
